200 Pound Beauty-- Solid

Saturday, December 1, 2007

Great Show! Watched it with apprehension initially. Thought it'd be some bimbotic show, but towards the end, my tears just rolled down uncontrollably! It's about this fat gal trying to win the love of this handsome hunk (DROOL) secretly. .The poor thing is always ostrocized by public for being fat. Finally she can't take it and went for an overall plastic surgery. It was a massive op that the surgeon did not want to do it for her! but she managed to blackmail him as he was her customer in phone sex!hahaha... Apart from being a phone sex operator, Hanna (the gal's name) was also a back singer. She sang behind the screens whilst the actual beautiful n slim singer went on stage. Pooor ger! Finally she transformed but alas! her hunk didn't like the idea of plastic surgery! She lost herself and become too engross in this "slim" world. To hide her past identity, she even didn't want to acknowledge her mentally ill father. Finally, on the day of her concert, she broke down n admitted her shame. That was so damn touching la! Must watch with your love ones! even my darling sobbed!!!

PS: Must we always be obsessed with materialistic items and superficial stuff like outter beauty and being slim??

The Story behind the Red Umbrella

Many of u must be wondering why was I sheltered with a red umbrella on my wedding? Well, not only u are asking that question. I've been asking several oldies that question, including my parents, and no one could give mi the answer. Some said it's to ensure i have a roof on top of me, some says it's just for luck. Others just tell me it's tradition. Geez.

Finally I got some answers today from an aunt. It seems tat there is a believe that a wedding chicken will come create havock as the bride leaves the parents house. thus, to appease n fend it off, out comes the red umbrella and some rice scattered to divert its attention. This is a typical Cantonese belief, not sure if other dialects have it though. So now we know!

My beautiful chairs are finally here!

Orange Swan Chair
It's a classic isn't it?

After cursing at Gnee Hong for almost 4 mths, the long awaited chairs are finally here. Okok, i admit, they are worth waiting for. 6 pcs of dining chairs. Cream with steel legs, adding on to the elegance of the house and brightening the whole place. The comfortable orange swan chair is a beauty which gives our master bedroom character! A designer chair worth buying! Total damage == $868

Another addition to our love nest is the newly setup coffee corner. Bought @ Ikea for $128, this stainless steel kitchen trolley is an investment for years to come (hopefully)

Off they went! My beauty mane. Enough to make 3 wigs for cancer patients (yup, have kept them for the donation). Went to Cassey @ Palais for the cut. good choice. Mink has superb cutting skills. armed with only a pair of scissors. Carol n I were very apprehensive wks b4 the cut. But after seeing several models and magazines, we were convinced! We were gonna get that angled bob!. We held hands and snipped our locks off. N see, the effect was a fresher n chic new me!

Gnee Hong Sux!

Monday, November 26, 2007

Remember I had a post entitled "Gnee Hong Rockz"? Well well, I'd like to take that down man! It's a terrible place to be buying your chairs or furniture from! From the day that post was published, till today, my set of 6 dining chairs and one study chair isn't here yet!!!!!!!! It's close to 4 mths already! I recall the day we placed our order n the deposit, the man said it'd take 6 to 8 wks. We were very excited as it means it'd be in time for our wedding. But till today, we can't have our bloody housewarming coz NO CHAIRS! We called them at least 3 times and were always told that there's some delay in China's manufacturing side. YAH RITE.....i suspect they brought it over n sold it to some high paying sucker! What the hell right? To be waiting this long and all this while, no calls from their end to update. Terrible service I must say. When questioned, the lady who answered seemed unsure of our order and her manager who knows about our order sounded extremely indifferent! Pissed us off. We almost called in to cancel n retrieve our deposit today when they called to say it finally arrive but have to wait till Friday for delivery! They even had the cheek to ask "so when do u want it?"..LIKE DUH>.....i replied that I wanted it asap n he said Friday...so much for efficiency!

USA Here We Come!

hmm...what should I wear on day 1, 2.........27? I'm all excited about our honeymoon. Whilst I'm busy thinking of which scarf to match which top, dearest darling is racking his brains on how to get the money for accommodation. Indeed, it's no joke to be holidaying in the US. However, we should all live life to the fullest! Even if it means owing the bank $$. We wont know what will happen tmw right?

So on with my research as to which hotel/ motel/ hostel to live in. Gosh, they are all ex! but i'd really hope we'd to get stay a night or two at some posh hotel, have a candlelight dinner and a spa! just like our wedding nite, minus the candlelight dinner. Yes, sweetie over there isn't exactly Mr Romantic, so we probably can't expect much. He couldn't even remember where was our first kiss or when he gave me the first bouquet of flowers (everyone thought he never gave...n I almost gave up too!haha)

I think i'll start with something simpler --- What to Wear. (GOsh SO BIMBO!)

Honeymoon Confirmed! 13 Oct to 8 Jan 2008

Sunday, November 18, 2007

Wanted to use Krisflyer miles to redemn but I think that will take forever coz we'll be on least priority on the waiting list. So bo bian, paid almost $5k for the tix liao!...means less money for mi to shop! here's the plan:
AMERICA HERE I COME!

We were all ready to set up the steamboat when *Drum roll*....Stupid me realised that I brought over the boat from mom's place but we can't get it to steam coz i forgotten the PLUG! MY GOSH! I think if there weren't guests there, my baby would have killed me there n then! Fortunately granny's place had a steamboat which we could borrow. It pays to be staying next to granny..haha. *Phew*

Our First Western Meal with Zhenlin & Ah Pek
Mussels! YUM
Creepy Crawlies
DIE!!!!!! U MUST DIE!!

Sushi Turned out a little Soggy..but Tasty.

We Thought this was Eel! Turns out to be Mackerel!

Two babes @ work
Chef Liew Rocks!SLURP....dont u wish u were here?

My baby is still in Shanghai. After 10 days of getting married, my baby is off to Bkk for GOLF n then Shanghai for work. Talk about having sex every night after marriage!Hahaha. But it's really a refreshing change to have the big house all by yourself n catching up with old friends and most importantly catching up with yourself n all those outstanding shit!

Had a cookout session n compared to our first cooking session (made up of steaks, mussels, carbonara..basically western), i think we did a better job at reducing wastage! It's terrible u know to have so much leftovers! Second session was with my new relatives. Sis and bro-in-law and couz-in-law who unfortunately had to leave early coz she was unwell. Nevertheless it was really fun. Check out the 6 crabs i bought from Giant. 3 for $8.90! It's a steal! Those little rascals sure would crawl. Despite being tied, they crawled from my kitchen all the way to the balcony whilst i was bathing. they did this 5 times until i decided to put the notie one into a pail. Killing em was another skill. Peishi used a long chopstick and we all took turns to poke the poor thing. Chef Liew whipped up a mean meal with the blechan given by Godma...yummy chilli sotong and stingray. Needless to say, there wasn't too much of a wastage. (just the miso soup which was really too much and we saved 3 crabs for another day. =)
CHEERS! GOOD JOB!

Guo Da Li

Just realised that I didn't really write about the Guo Da Li. This happened 2 wks b4 my weddding. Thankfully I had my old aunt who was well versed in all the traditions. Here's a rundown of what was given:

Stuff that Bridegroom side must give:

  1. A roast pig (to be given on wedding day)

  2. 2 bottle sof hard liquor

  3. 12 boxes of cakes & 38 cake vouchers

  4. Pin jin for bride's mother

  5. Ang pow for grandparents

  6. ginko nuts, lotus seeds, red dates and dried longans

Stuff that bride side must return to groom:

  1. Chop off the middle section of the roast pig and leave only the head, and legs of the pig. replace the chopped off section with a pair of pants for teh groom wrapped in plastic reason for this is "Da Fu Da Gui" to the groom. But COME ON!! we are in the new century! this is all replaced by an angbao

  2. 2 bottles of F&N strawberry

  3. Give teapot set to groomside

  4. Give a packet of ginko nuts, lotus seeds, red dates and dried longans to groom side

  5. Pass a pair of lamps to groom (which must be lighted throughout the day of marriage)

  6. Bride must give ang bao to groom's parents, siblings (for buying new clothes)..errrr..can't quite remember if this was done!Hahah

On the day of Guo Da Li, my mil also went over to our love nest to An Chuang. This is an important part of the Chinese tradition. Wonder if they got little dragon virgin boys to jump on my bed!hahaha....thereafter, we weren't suppose to sleep on the bed until wedding day. The items on the bed were to be placed on the bed for 3 days n no one is allowed to touch! All tresspassers will be prosecuted!

The Aftermath

Monday, October 29, 2007

THe next day after our weddding, we went out to have couple of drinks with frens. Guess we hadn't had enuff!haha. We were still pretty tired and was busy counting ang baoz. Sadly, we didn't earn. Fortunately together with the $$ collected from Tea ceremony, we didn't lose too much. The next day, we did the most amazing thing...nope, it's not XXX. haha...it's a 3 hour spa compliments from The Oriental Hotel (otherwise known as Mandarin Oriental now). Damn shiok i tell u. The moment they put that scrub on me, i dozed off! n then there was that bathtub which i keep slipping into. n fruits n tea n that 1hour + massage....we simple dozed off to lala land! BUt sadly, after the spa, we had to check out n return to reality. Returned the gown n went back to our love nest!

10 days into our wedding, my dearest is off to Bangkok n then Shanghai for work. I'm left all alone in a big big house. Quite Shiok to be really honest! But i do miss him, especially since it's the lull period for me now. Can't wait for him to come back! n can't wait for our honeymoon!

PS: Still extremely awkward with calling new mom n new dad. Think they are equally as awkward!haha

14 October -- How the night ended

Gorgeous Sisters
Happie Family! Happie Happie!
Suan Tian Ku La
Cheers!

It's our wedding..but it seemed that everyone felt it was their wedding that night!haha. We went a few tables and were made to drink and eat a slice of fat meat (Yum for him....yucks for mi!)...then at the end of it all, our brothers gave us the Suan tian ku la treatment. i tink there was vinegar, chilli padi, beer. my poor darling ate them all..i helped with the beer. By the end of the night, everyone was pretty high n i heard some even PUKE!haha. Andy was the funniest, went down on bended knees n started singing to our dear Xiuling! yup...coming from someone like him, it was truely a sight. Then he want on a rampage and started grabbing ppl to kiss!YUCK.

Fortunately it was a Sunday n next day people have to work, thus they all left. (quite sad though...coz i wasn't high enuff). We went back n continued with a few more rounds of wine with Ah pek n brother Zhenlin. Suddenly my sweetie stood up n said he was gona sleep!!! He took off his shirt, socks n shoes n headed to the bedroom. haha..Ah Pek n I were left dumbfounded! n the rest as they say, is history (dont let ur imagination run too wild)

14 October -- The memorable nite

It was the Oscars. People dressed in all colours and bling bling galore! We arrived at the hotel at about 4pm. Considered early. It rained n my little piggies on my car got soaked. Hubby decided to take them off n my bridal car was just a plain BMW valet parked in front of the hotel! Grrrr.

For the first march in, we used a lovely spanish version of Whitney Housten Song -- I will always love u. It was a long march, thus it was utterly suitable. We searched high n low for the CD. It was all worthwhile. Marching in, I felt like a superstar. Waving to the crowd, some of whom I dont even know who! Honestly, in the midst of the darkness, u wont know who is who. My cheeks were getting a little "suan" when suddenly one aunty shouted "JAnice!!! Janice!!"..wow! that realli "woke me up" and brightened my smiles! She was my fan, n I was like some Superstar (definitely not singapore one).

First dish then came. The song, chosen by urs truely was Tokyo Drift by the Tereyaki Boyz. Inspired coz the other day we were just watching the show Tokyo Drift!haha. it was totally apt n realli got people in the mood. After the sharksfin (thank goodness i could eat that!), we went up for a change. Hubby had a bad boy style whilst I changed into my gorgeous fuschia number. It was totally sexy (i feel la). Our 2nd march in song was Truely Madly Deeply by Savage Garden. I couldn't think of any other songs. we din want a slow one...i dug out all my CDs n listened n finally found the one. It was pretty last min.

The whole photo taking session lasted for quite a bit n the whole nite ended at about 1130pm. some left earlier as expected. but our dear bros and sis stayed on to party.

14 October -- Happy Families!

Friday, October 26, 2007

Groom's Daddy's family
Groom's mommy's Family
Bride's Family
One happy family
(The guy in grey silvery hair is my daddy dearest and not grandpa by the way)
Mother & daughter (i think i look great here!)
Our families suddenly felt bigger. Gosh. more ang baos to give away next yr!

14 October -- Tea Ceremonies

The weather was great (though scorching). By 11am we were at Blk 110 Lengkong Tiga, getting ready to serve tea to Groom's relatives. We had to serve tea to both mother and father's side. Boy there were so many people, I honestly cannot remember who is who!! I think I'll have to do up a family tree when I'm free. It was really funny to be serving tea to my new bro-in-law and to be served by new sis-in-law.

Buffet by Purple Sage (http://www.purplesage.com.sg/) was served at both bride and groom's parents' place. It was a pretty good spread, though I didn't really get to eat much! After all the tea drinking, we had to eat tang yuan whilst sitting on our new bed. I guess it's to symbolise yuan yuan man man tian tian mi mi.

We were right on schedule, if not earlier than expected. I changed into my tea dress (that stunning James Bond Red Hot number) and by 130pm we were back at the bride's house serving tea AGAIN. this time the tea had red dates. Some tradition again, to symbolise luck i suppose. By 2+pm, the first half of the day was completed!
